American woman wins $1 million lottery prize thanks to lack of tickets in store

A Michigan woman whose local store had sold out of all the lottery tickets she wanted to buy was forced to take another chance – and won a $1 million prize.

The Kent County resident told Michigan Lottery officials that she had visited a local store with a specific ticket in mind, but when she arrived, she found that the game had been sold out.

"The store didn't have the game I wanted to buy, so I decided to try my luck with the Wild Cherry game. I scanned the barcode and scanned the ticket. When I read the message that I had to submit a claim, I thought I had won $10," she recalled.

The woman said the shop assistant helped her understand that her price was much higher.

"I handed the ticket back to the assistant and let her check it. She helped me erase the rest, and when she saw that I had won $1 million, she shouted, 'She just won $1 million!'" she added.

The winner said the prize money will go towards buying a new house and increasing her savings.

“Not knowing when you might find a winning ticket is part of what makes the instant game so fun,” said Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli, adding that “winning $1 million, especially on a game you’re playing for the first time, is an incredibly exciting way to win!” /Telegraph/
