American expert's analysis of Trump's changes: Serbia will make efforts for territories in BiH and Kosovo

Johns Hopkins University professor and Balkan affairs expert Daniel Serwer has raised concerns about the changes the Trump administration is planning in foreign policy, especially in relation to Ukraine and Europe.

Pete Hegseth, US Secretary of Defense, announced on Wednesday a major shift in US policy towards Ukraine, proposing:

The end of Washington's support for Ukraine's membership in NATO;

Abandoning Kiev's goal of reclaiming its sovereign territories;

Drastic reduction of US aid to Ukraine;

The exclusion of American troops from any peacekeeping mission after the war;

The demand that Europe take on any such mission without the guarantee of NATO's Article 5.

Serwer estimates that this change would give Russia everything it wants, except for direct and immediate control over the government in Kiev.

According to him, this is not "peace through force," as Hegseth claims, but a surrender to Russian interests.

He warns that a Ukraine abandoned by the US could be forced to seek nuclear weapons for survival, a scenario that Russia would not allow.

Moreover, according to him, such a withdrawal would jeopardize stability in the Balkans, encouraging Serbia to take steps to expand its control over territories in Bosnia and Kosovo.

Also, such a policy would send a dangerous signal to China, making it clear that the US would not be willing to defend Taiwan.

Serwer argues that the Biden administration has pursued a balanced policy, inflicting significant losses on Russia without provoking the use of nuclear weapons.

However, he claims that this was not enough for a Ukrainian victory.

"The only way to ensure that is through technological superiority and unconditional support from the West."

A Ukrainian victory, according to Serwer, would strengthen the West, weaken Russian expansionist efforts, and create an economically stabilized Ukraine, which could become an important trading partner for the US and Europe./Telegraph/
