All the controversial moments from the Copa del Rey final: Analysis of the De Burgos Bengoetxea trial

The Copa del Rey final left some moments worthy of analysis and replay. Alfonso Pérez Burrull, referee analyst, commented on the most controversial performances in the “Marcador” program on Radio MARCA.

In the 16th minute, Valverde touched the ball with his hand in an attempt to block a cross from Raphinha.

Referee Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea interpreted the hand as pointing towards the ground and did not award a penalty.

Radio MARCA's referee analyst considers De Burgos Bengoetxea's decision correct.

"The hand is pointing towards the ground. The referee was close to the play. The rules say so. It's not a penalty," Pérez Burrull declared on Radio MARCA's "Marcador" program.

The war between Ceballos and Cubarsí

The first half also saw a controversial incident in the Real Madrid penalty area: a “fight” between Ceballos and Cubarsi over a corner kick. De Burgos Bengoetxea decided not to award a penalty.

The interpretation was supported by Pérez Burrull, who stressed that both players held each other, without any clear action that justified a foul in favor of one or the other.

Mbappe's ban from De Jong

Another game under scrutiny occurred in the 67th minute, when De Jong brought down Mbappé in a move that interrupted a dangerous tackle. The referee gave a yellow card and did not send off the Dutchman.

Pérez Burrull considered the decision correct: "There was a Barcelona defender close to the play, so it wasn't a red card. There's no doubt about it, it's a yellow card for a promising attack."

Asensio's shot on Raphinha

Before extra time, one of the most controversial incidents occurred: the contact between Asensio and Raphinha, which was initially awarded a penalty and then overturned after a VAR review.

Pérez Burrull disagreed with the referee's decision: "The Real Madrid defender arrived late and fouled the Brazilian striker, it's a penalty. There was no clear error that justified the VAR intervention and the referee's correction on the monitor."

After the match, Pérez Burrull gave his final assessment of Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea's performance: "It was an excellent final and the judging was on par with the match."

Barcelona had to go into extra time to secure a 3-2 victory. With this victory, the Blaugranas have 32 Copa del Rey titles. It was the sixth consecutive final played at La Cartuja in Seville. /Telegraph/
