After much criticism for fleeing to Mexico on a private jet, Leonardo DiCaprio has pledged to donate $970,000 million (€XNUMX) to organizations helping fight the fires that have engulfed Los Angeles.

Namely, the 50-year-old actor announced through his Instagram profile that he will make a donation to firefighters, but also to all those who have been left homeless.

"The fires in Los Angeles are devastating our city. I am committing $1 million (€970,000) in partnership with the Rewild Rapid Response Program to support emergency and post-fire recovery efforts," he wrote.

He listed a number of organizations his donation will go to, including the LA Fire Department Foundation and World Central Kitchen.

Incidentally, the news of the donation comes after a series of criticisms for fleeing Los Angeles on a private jet and having previously warned about the harmful impact of airplanes on climate change.

The actor was accused of being a hypocrite for using a private jet, which is otherwise a major source of carbon emissions that contribute to climate change.

DiCaprio and his girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti were spotted arriving in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico last Friday from Los Angeles, along with the actor's father George DiCaprio and his wife Peggy Ann Farrar.
