The National Food Authority (AKU) of Elbasan has blocked 50 tons of livestock corn imported from Serbia, after finding the presence of aflatoxin B1, a toxic substance that poses a serious risk to animal and human health.

According to the report of the head of the food sector at the AKU Elbasan, Firdus Kurti, two shipments of Serbian corn tested positive for aflatoxin after laboratory tests.

"This quantity has been blocked in the entity's warehouse," said the sector's head, explaining that, "currently, inspectors are awaiting results for 25 tons of corn, while another 25 tons of this quantity are expected to be destroyed, based on the suspicions raised and preliminary checks."

The NFA has intensified controls on all commercial entities, with the aim of guaranteeing food safety and protecting consumers.
