Abdixhiku: The election of the president requires consensus, not one-sided candidacies

The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, has stated that the election of the country's president cannot be carried out with unilateral candidacies and without political consensus between the parties in the Assembly.
He said that there was no agreement on a specific candidacy for the post of president and that such a thing was not requested during the talks.
"The presidency is not achieved through unilateral candidacies. So no, we have not agreed on such a thing, nor has such a thing ever been requested," declared Abdixhiku.
According to him, during discussions between the parties, it was agreed to avoid unilateral actions and for the process to be developed through consensus.
"We have agreed that there should be no unilateral actions, that there should be consensus, this is the way," he said.
Abdixhiku added that the process has already been compromised, claiming that while talks were taking place between the parties, the Office of the President of Kosovo made statements attempting to blame the opposition.
"The process has now been compromised, because last night I understood from the statements of the President's Office that while we were in talks, they went and demanded blame for the opposition," he said.
The LDK leader emphasized that the presidential candidate must be a figure who can secure broad support in the Assembly and represent political unity.
"The candidate who is proposed must be elected. It is not a race for the Ombudsman, it is not a race that requires a simple majority. We want and have had a consensual candidate who represents more than 61 deputies. For a simple majority you have the prime minister, for greater unity it is the president", declared Abdixhiku. /Telegraph/
