Deputies of the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia have submitted today to the parliamentary procedure the Proposal-Resolution on respecting the standards of due process in the international trial of the former heads of the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, reports Telegraph Macedonia.

"This resolution is based on constitutional principles and international standards of justice, reaffirming the commitment to the rule of law, the independence of the judiciary and full respect for fundamental human rights, as defined in the European Convention on Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Through this parliamentary initiative, it is requested that the judicial processes taking place before the Kosovo Specialist Chambers be conducted in full compliance with the highest international standards, guaranteeing the presumption of innocence, effective defense and trial within a reasonable time for all accused.

"The resolution, among other things, appreciates the contribution of institutional leaders and members of the Kosovo liberation war to the processes of peace, stability and Euro-Atlantic integration of the region, emphasizing that international justice must be impartial, professional and independent of any political influence," the DUI statement said.

They say that the signatory MPs call on all MPs of the Assembly, regardless of political affiliation, to join this initiative and support the Resolution by vote, in order to strengthen the universal principles of justice and the consistent respect of international standards for a fair and impartial process. /Telegraph/
