A homeowner angry with his local council for forcing him to tear down a small garden fence

A frustrated homeowner has criticised his local council for forcing him to tear down a small garden fence.

David Grange was left stunned when Stockton Council in England ordered him to remove his modest 0.9-metre-high railing after just two neighbours complained about it.

Despite planning officers recommending its approval, councillors called the wrought iron-style fence a 'mess' and ordered it to be demolished.

Mr Grange said it was 'ridiculous' his small fence was rejected by the same committee that had just approved a major new development in the same town.

The controversy began in December when Mr. Grange replaced an old fence with the picket fence.

Two neighbours lodged objections, with one warning it could set a 'precedent' in open-plan properties and another claiming it ruined the 'aesthetic appeal' of the area. /Telegraph/
