Elon Musk-led group makes $97.4 billion bid for OpenAI's "all assets" - Sam Altman responds

Billionaire Elon Musk is leading a consortium of investors who announced that it had submitted a $97.4 billion bid for "all assets" of artificial intelligence company OpenAI.

The company, which operates ChatGPT, has been working to restructure itself away from its original non-profit status, foreign media write, reports Telegraph.

OpenAI also operates a profitable subsidiary, and Musk's offer could complicate the company's plans.

The Wall Street Journal first reported the proposed offer.

But Altman posted his reaction on X shortly after the news broke, saying, "no thanks, but we'll buy Twitter for $9.74 billion if you want."

Musk bought Twitter in 2022 for $44 billion and named it X. Musk responded to that post, saying: "Fraudulent."

Musk was a co-founder of OpenAI, but left the company in 2019 and started his own AI company called xAI.

Over the past few years, he has had several clashes with Altman over the direction of the company. /Telegraph/
