4 billion euro budget on the agenda, MPs gather today

The extraordinary plenary session of the Assembly of Kosovo will continue today, with the review of the Draft Law on the 2026 Budget on the agenda.
The session is expected to start at 10:00.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Albulena Haxhiu, after consultations with the heads of parliamentary groups on Friday, decided to postpone the session until today to give MPs time to review the document.
The budget vote in first reading faced opposition from opposition parties, which requested more time to analyze the draft law, which contains about 700 pages.
Opposition MPs have emphasized that it is necessary to read the document in detail in order to present concrete proposals.
Minister Murati has acknowledged that some new ministries do not have a budget, but has mentioned the urgency of approving the new draft law and has pledged that there will be changes and revisions to the budget in the coming weeks and months.
The proposed budget for 2026 amounts to 4 billion euros. Of the total amount of 3.955.595,904 billion, 998 million euros have been allocated for capital investments, while the bulk of the budget, or over 1.3 billion euros, is expected to be spent on subsidies and transfers.
Over 980 million euros have been allocated for the salaries and allowances of over 91 thousand public sector employees. Goods and services will cost 509 million euros, while utility expenses will cost over 35 million euros.
To become law, it must pass a second reading in the Assembly. /Telegraph/
