Manchester United has gone through many changes over the last decade, with their reputation on the pitch declining and many players coming and going from Old Trafford.

After winning the Premier League in 2013 and the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, the club has struggled to return to its glory days, seeing many big names leave and change their career paths.


However, several former Red Devils players still continue to play professionally, even at different levels, and GIVEMESPORT has prepared a "starting lineup" for former stars who may have fallen into oblivion among fans.

Porter

Sergio Romero – The former Argentine goalkeeper joined Man Utd from Sampdoria under Louis Van Gaal and was David De Gea's backup for six years, including the Europa League final against Ajax.

After a return to Italy with Venezia and a spell at Boca Juniors, Romero now plays for Argentinos Juniors in the Argentine football elite, at the age of 38.


PROTECTION

Chris Smalling – Considered to be Rio Ferdinand's successor at centre-back, he failed to live up to expectations due to injuries. He now plays in Saudi Arabia with Al Fayha, aged 36.

Marcos Rojo – The former Argentina player and known for his tough style, after leaving Europe he now plays for Racing Club in Argentina.

Alexander Buttner – The Dutch player, who also scored in Ferguson's final season, now plays for Vitesse in the Eredivisie.

William Varela – Known for assisting Marcus Rashford's debut goal against Arsenal, after loan spells he currently plays for Flamengo in Brazil.



Midfield

Juan Kill – The Spanish World Cup winner made 285 appearances for Man United, scoring 51 goals. After Man Utd he has played in Turkey, Japan and currently in Australia with Melbourne Victory.

Shinji Kagawa – After two years at Old Trafford, he returned to Japan and now plays for Cerezo Osaka.

Ravel morrison – A great talent who was not fully developed due to off-field problems, now plays in the UAE second division with Arabian Falcons, at the age of 32.


The attackers

Baby – Known for his journey from the "Homeless World Cup" to the Champions League, after several years in La Liga, he currently plays for UD Ibiza.

Federico Macheda – Scored the goals that helped Man United win the title in 2009, after many clubs he now plays for Asteras Tripolis in Greece, at the age of 34.

Nani – The former Portuguese winger retired in 2024, but at the age of 39 he returned to play for Aktobe in Kazakhstan.
